Strawberries are probably the most popular of all the berry fruits. They are a great source of vitamin C and K. Strawberries also contain fibre, folic acid, manganese and potassium. They are good for the skin and for your digestive system.
Fun fact – strawberries are not technically fruits because their seeds are on the outside. They are part of the rose family.
This delicious recipe for strawberry and basil infused water tastes as good as it looks. The strawberries add sweetness to the water; the lemon gives it a gentle tang; and the basil makes it crisp and fresh. Here’s how you make it:
Ingredients:
- 6 full strawberries
- 1/2 a lemon
- Handful of basil
- Ice
- Cold water
Method:
- Hull and quarter the strawberries and cut the lemon into slices
- Put the strawberries and lemon into a large pitcher. Add ice.
- Gently crush the basil with your fingers and add to the pitcher
- Fill with water and leave it in the refrigerator for at least one hour to let the flavours of the fruit infuse the water
